My introductions

This page is a list of the cultivars I’ve created and introduced myself.

Tradescantia brevifolia × hirta ‘Raspberry Ruffle’

This is the first documented case of a T. brevifolia × hirta cross, and the first cultivar I created myself. It was bred in 2023, named and introduced in summer 2024.

The plant has long narrow leaves, intermediate between the parents ‘Scout’ and ‘Swifttale’. It produces lots of large pink flowers with slightly ruffled petals.

Tradescantia zebrina ‘Sepia Grain’

My first T. zebrina introduction. It was bred in 2023 from ‘Purpusii’ and an unknown pollen parent, and introduced in summer 2024.

The leaves have a light green base colour with narrow silver bands. In bright light they develop purple speckles concentrated in a stripe down the centre of the leaf and scattered over the whole surface.

Tradescantia pallida ‘Froglet’

My first T. pallida introduction. It was bred in 2023 from ‘Ocampo White’ and an unknown pollen parent, and introduced in summer 2024.

The leaves are small and stay bright green in all but the most intense sun stress. The flowers are soft pink with extremely round, almost circular petals.

Tradescantia pallida ‘Raindrop’

Another T. pallida bred in 2023 from ‘Purpurea’ and an unknown pollen parent, and introduced in summer 2024.

It has extremely pale purple flowers, with teardrop-shaped petals with narrow pointed tips. The leaves are narrow and range from olive green to purple depending on light levels.

Tradescantia pallida ‘Olwen’

A T. pallida which I originally bred in 2023, but only introduced in 2025. It was a seedling from ‘Kartuz Giant’ and an unknown pollen parent.

It has very large, wide leaves which often curl and fold up against the stem. They stay very green even in the most intense sunlight. The flowers are bright pink and very round.

Tradescantia pallida ‘Fluorite’

This T. pallida cultivar was produced from a complex multigenerational cross over a couple of years, and introduced in 2025. The exact ancestry isn’t completely certain, but it definitely involves ‘Kartuz Giant’, ‘Jade King’, and possibly other mysteries.

It has wide leaves which splay out flat, and are streaked with greyish purple and green. The flowers are round and soft pink.
