Description

Described by David Simpson.

Cultivar groupTradescantia Andersoniana Group.
Growth habitAn erect semi-evergreen, clump forming, herbaceous perennial. Approx. 50cm x 50cm in height and likely eventual spread. Multiple robust stems rising from rhizomatous roots. Vigorous growth in early spring to a determinate height before flowering in May/June.
FoliageStem length 40-50cm with alternate leaves of approx, 20cm in length and 2cm width. Fluted with prominent central rib. Mid green colour. Closest to RHS Green Group 143B.
FlowersThree petalled flowers to 4.5cm in clusters of buds with green sepals and pink tinged pedicels. White rounded petals are softened by a lavender coloured fan shaped streak reaching out from the centre to the tip of each petal. The closest colour reference is RHS Violet-Blue Group 91B. The underside of the petals is white. The prominent darker violet stamens are topped with yellow anthers. Flower clusters contain 7-9 individual flower buds which open individually, or sometimes dually, lasting just one day.
ComparisonsSimilar cultivars are ‘Angel Eyes’, ‘Euridice’, ‘Iris Prichard’, and ‘Osprey’. ‘Lavender Blush’ is unique in the streaked distribution of colour towards the tips of the petals.
