Details
Full name | Tradescantia (Andersoniana Group) ‘Azurea’. |
Name status | Accepted, the valid name for a unique cultivar. Published by Booth (1842, p. 70). Because it was published before 1959, the Latin name with no description can be established (Brickell et al., 2016, Arts. 21.11, 27.1). The name has been spelled ‘Azureo’ (Booth, 1842, p. 70) and ‘Azureis’ (Nagels, 1937, p. 58). The spelling is corrected to ‘Azurea’ to match the grammatical gender in Latin (Brickell et al., 2016, Art. 21.8). |
Origins | Unknown. |
Classification | Like other hardy garden hybrids, it is now placed in the Andersoniana Group. These hybrids are sometimes mislabelled as T. virginiana, its invalid horticultural syonym T. virginica, or the invalid botanical hybrid T. × andersoniana. |
Legal protection | None. |
Availability | Probably lost from cultivation, it was last sold by Nagels (1937, p. 58). |
