Full name	Tradescantia (Andersoniana Group) ‘J. C. Weguelin’.
Name status	Accepted, the valid name for a unique cultivar. Established with a description by Backhouse of York (1929, p. 48). The name has been incorrectly written in many different ways: ‘J C Weguelin’ (Royal Horticultural Society, 1987, p. 391). ‘J. C. DeGuelin’ (Pearce, 1938, p. 12). ‘I. C. Weguelin’ (Foerster, 1931, p. 22). ‘James Weguelin’ (Kelways Langport, 1933, p. 42). ‘James C. Weguelin’ (Wayman, 1940, p. 29). ‘James Crawford Weguelin’ (Caroll Gardens, 1940, p. 29). ‘Weguelin’ (Foerster, 1930, p. 19). The earliest and most common spelling ‘J. C. Weguelin’ is now accepted, and the others are treated as errors and not established (Brickell et al., Art. 35.2).
Origins	Unknown.
Classification	Like other hardy garden hybrids, it is now placed in the Andersoniana Group. These hybrids are sometimes mislabelled as Tradescantia virginiana or the invalid botanical hybrid Tradescantia × andersoniana.
