Details
Full name | Gibasis pellucida ‘Nosfe’. |
Name status | Accepted, the valid name for a unique cultivar. Registered in 2025 by Kaja Mierzejewska, the name will be formally established once published in hardcopy (Brickell et al., 2016, Art. 27.6). The name comes from Nosferatu, because the coloured centre of the leaves resembles vampire fangs. |
Origins | Seedling bred in 2024. The seed parent is an unnamed large form of Gibasis pellucida, and the pollen parent is suspected to be G. pellucida ‘Tahitian Bridal Veil’. Bred, named, registered, and introduced by Kaja Mierzejewska in Lódz, Poland. |
Classification | Gibasis pellucida is in the Commelinaceae family, and sometimes mislabelled as Tradescantia. |
Legal protection | None. |
Availability | Newly introduced in Europe. |
Description
Described by Kaja Mierzejewska.
Species | Gibasis pellucida. |
Growth habit | Delicate stems and a hanging habit, with long internodes. |
Foliage | Leaves about 3-4cm long, quite rounded at the base and pointed at the end. Green with a stain in the area of the central vein. The stain is naturally purple, becoming more intense burgundy in bright sun. The colour never spreads over the entire leaf, always leaving a green border at the edge. |
Flowers | Flowers are white, 3-5mm across. |
Comparisons | Compared to the pollen parent G. pellucida ‘Tahitian Bridal Veil’, the growth habit is similar but the leaves are slightly larger and have a coloured centre. Compared to the unnamed seed parent the leaves are smaller with a more trailing habit. |
